My little heart attack maker

Emmalyn has already given me a few heart attacks, and I have a feeling I should prepare my heart for a million more after she's born!

Heart attack number one happened when Birthmom fell the other day, and we spent 24 hours in the observation room. Birthgrandma and I slept intermittenly on the floor, and that nearly killed us. Birthmom was really uncomfortable, and I wish there was something more we could have done for her. She was finally able to have a painkiller, and that made her loopy. We were up until about 4:30 in the morning talking about anything and everything.

The next morning, we learned that bloodwork showed a possible tear in the placenta...Heart attack number two. We had to stay all day for a series of bloodtests to make sure Emmalyn and Birthmom were alright.

Just before I left school to take Birthmom to a monitoring appointment, Birthgrandma called to tell me she was pretty confident Emmalyn was going to be born this weekend...heart attack number three (only this was a good one, because we want nothing more than for her to be born!).

My daughter has me wrapped around her tiny little finger already, and her entire soul is wrapped around my heart.

I truly cannot wait to hold her in my arms for the first time, kiss her chubby little cheeks, and tell her how much I love her!

Birthing class

On Sunday, hubby, Birthmom and Birthgrandma attended birthing class at our hospital. There was some great information, but the class lasted a long time with just a short break, no snacks, and the chairs were horribly uncomfortable for Birthmom who, at 37 weeks, is feeling uncomfortable as is.

We did get to see one of the delivery rooms, and it was kind of exciting to think how close we are to being there for our daughter's birth.

Tugging on my heart strings

Tuesday, Birthmom was asked to come in for another sonogram because the doctor wanted a second look at baby's heart. Emmalyn was positioned in a way that wouldn't allow the doctor to see what he needed to see. Doctor couldn't tell us everything was alright, and he sent us to a specialist in Springfield for a 4D sonogram to better see baby's heart. So, for two days, I panicked even though everyone else said baby would be fine.

My worry went through all the stages. Anger, disbelief, bargaining, and finally acceptance. Whatever the doctor’s appointment and sonogram revealed, I was ready to accept and do everything I needed to do to ensure my daughter arrived safely in this world and came home with us.

Thankfully, all was well, and our baby is healthy and strong!

Not only did we get this amazing news, but we also got to see our gorgeous daughter's face. She even smiled for us!

I love this little girl so much already…she has become the core of my existence, the light in my life, and the dream I have always wished to come true. I cannot wait for her to arrive, so I can spend the rest of my life giving back to her all the wonderful joy she has already given me.

Our beautiful daughter

Friday's sonogram was the first time hubby got to be there for a sonogram. He was nearly brought to tears seeing our daughter wiggle around in Birthmom's belly. Emmalyn had the hiccups, and she was a camera ham. The doctor said something about seeing her face, and she turned as if she knew we wanted to see her beautiful face. The result was this precious picture!

Sharp dressed gal

Emmalyn is going to be one sharp dressed little lady! I just finished washing every piece of clothing we have for her, and after 3 super-sized loads of baby clothes, the washer/dryer and I are pooped!

Dear Emmalyn

Dear Emmalyn,

There's about a month left before you arrive, and it feels like a lifetime away. We are ready for you. Your nursery is decorated, and Daddy put your crib together. Mommy hung pictures on the wall including the story about your adoption that was in our local paper and filled the room with teddy bears for you to snuggle with.

Your Grandmas, Grandpas, Great-Grandma, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins are all eagerly awaiting your arrival too. Everyone has been giving us things for you, and we are very lucky to have such wonderful family and friends who care so much for you already.

Your Birthmom is looking forward to your arrival too. She loves you very much...so much that she wants you to have a wonderful life, and she is looking forward to spending holidays and other special occasions with you and watching you grow up. Your Birthgrandma and Birthuncle are also excited about meeting you and watching you grow up.

Mommy and Daddy are over the moon with joy knowing that you'll soon be in our arms. While you have been growing in your Birthmom's belly, you have been growing in our hearts, and we already love you more than anything in the world...we know we will fall in love with you even more when we finally get to hold you in our arms.

You are one lucky little lady. So many people love you and are waiting for your safe arrival in this world.

We love you with all our stuffing!

The Christmas Spirit

I love Christmas! I love decorating my house! I love putting up the Christmas tree! I love baking, making candy, filling stockings, wrapping gifts, and most of all, I love that my sister and nieces and nephew come to visit!

As has become tradition, on Christmas morning, we host a brunch for our family and friends who want to come along too! After we eat, we open gifts and play Christmas bingo for prizes. Once everyone is full, the kids usually end up playing Rock Band with Uncle Steve.

This year, Birthmom, Birthgrandma and Birthuncle will be here for brunch too, and we are very excited to have them along. I love how naturally they have become a part of the family. This will be wonderful for Emmalyn...we want her to see us as one family who all love her...not a family here and a family there.

As Christmas approaches, I can't help but think about how wonderful this Christmas will be. I also can't help but think about next Christmas...Emmalyn's first Christmas...and how much more wonderful it will be simply because she will be with us!

So, if in all my wrapping, baking, candymaking and daydreaming I fail to blog, I want to be sure to take the time to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Holiday joy to all!
